Live, Up Close and Open Air

Fans of impressive scenery and exciting production won't be disappointed with what Garmisch-Partenkirchen has to offer. Not only will they experience the natural spectacle of the Alps, there's also no shortage of captivating theatre performances. From “The Neverending Story” to tales of Bavarian everyday life. Live, up close and sometimes even in the open air!

Peasant Theatre Partenkirchen (only in German)

The curtain opens on one of the oldest amateur theatre groups in Bavaria: The “Bauerntheater Partenkirchen” has been inspiring guests and locals for 115 years with plays such as “The Village Pastor” or “Clever Urschl”. Now, just as in the past, the amateur actors never fail to leave the audience tickled pick with their Bavarian charm and humour.

Little Theater (only in German)

Fritz Rohrbeck, director and founder of the Kleines Theater, felt drawn to the stage ever since he was a boy. After discovering the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen he decided to start a theatre here, and thus the “Little Theatre” was born. The theatre is now in its 3rd generation; its productions regularly delight audiences with their care and attention to detail.

KULTurSOMMER (Culture Summer)

This annual festival features a colourful program presented by a range of artists and ensembles. Enjoy an unforgettable evening with plays, concerts, cabaret, readings and musical evenings.

Music in the Park

There has been music in the Michael-Ende spa gardens since 1930. The musical programme offers a wide range, from Bavarian music to Waltz music, from operetta melodies to swing. Special events with famous vocal or instrumental soloists will be the highlights of the season.

Richard-Strauss-Festival

Garmisch-Partenkirchen pays tribute to its honorary citizen with the yearly Richard-Strauss-Festival. This legendary week of music includes a wide and varied program of events, featuring internationally acclaimed conductors, soloists and orchestras. The 2011 festival will take place on 4-10th June.
